The Daddie'sGurl Dilemma #ThisAintMother-FatherDay

Try Seven. #JustThe7OfUs
I am my daddie’s daughter. I am his creation. I am his possession. I am his most precious thing. I am perfected through his imperfection. I am the child of a great man.

I am the daughter of a preacher man from a small town in Texas. He is the first of 9 children. My daddie is kind. Most boys from our neighborhood would dispute that fact with empirical data, but he is kind. Trust me, I’m a blogger. It was just a ruse – a really real, but not all the way real deception. You are automatically kind when you have his capacity for love. I get my generosity from my mother, and love from my daddie. After all, it was his first gift to me. The second? Words. My daddie wrote me. And through that literary experience, I became a writer.

Anyway, a short man, with high yellow chicken legs, charismatic presence and inability to clap on beat. Yup, that one is mine. Right there, behind the pulpit, feeling the Spirit of the Lord and not the beat of the organ. Full of wit, intelligence, down home jokes and tales from a dirt road. Even this day, this very day, as educated as I am, my daddie can get me with one of his twisted tales. I remember when I made the decision to attend UCLA…

What do you see when you fly over Los Angeles?

I’m smart (or a smart ass, depending on who you are) so I obviously knew the answer…hello? You see smog!

Well, there’s smog, but what do you see, when you fly over Los Angeles? Daddie has a way of making you think so critically about things. He knew that I wasn’t really thinking, I was just talking.
#8Clap #BruinDads

And I continued to talk… Well, you don’t see stars, because of the smog…You see houses, downtown, hecka (not hella) cars because everyone is stuck in traffic… Talk, talk, talk… when he wanted me to think, think, think.

Finally, with that smug look on his face, knowing that once again he got me… You See L – A.

He really got me #ImSeriouslyHellaSlowSometimes. An incoming first year student. To the University of California at Los Angeles…otherwise known as U – C – L – A.

People like me, who think he is a really awesome guy, are sometimes in the minority. As tough as the streets of East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park were, you couldn’t find one boy, one young man, one ill-informed person brave enough to date me. Back then I thought it was me #ItProbablyWas. I wasn’t pretty enough. I wasn’t cool enough. I was too much of a nerd. Had to have been that. Nobody likes a smart girl in High School, right?

I returned home from Bruinville for Christmas after that first epic quarter of college. I walked the streets of East Menlo with my homey – as was our high school custom. During this particular stroll, we came across fellow classmates. In May they were listening to my commencement speech on Menlo-Atherton's Football Field, and that December I was in the streets getting caught up on their lives. Riding to the corner store with a male friend (unbeknownst to my father) we chatted about high school, what was going on in Los Angeles, and everything I missed while I was away. Bold enough in the moment, I asked…

I wonder why nobody wanted to date me in high school? I mean, I couldn’t have possibly been that unattractive. I will never forget his response.

Hell, I would have dated you. But uh, yo Pops is crazy. #missionaccomplished Well played Daddie. Well. Played.

This. Dude. Right. Here. #MyDaddie
I am sure that on this day some woman is going to be wished a Happy Father’s Day, because well, her kids didn’t get to experience everything that I did. A man, consistently being The Man in the life of the child he made. This, in my humble opinion, does nothing to advance "Daddie"hood or recognize the importance of this day. It does the very opposite. It says that a woman could have done the things my Daddie did for me. And that is not the truth. My Mommie knows my Daddie VERY WELL, and she, even with all her insider knowledge could never make me feel as perfect as he does. No way could she have scared an ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD of boys by her presence alone! Commanded their fear and respect? Nope. Not Marilou.

That’s a tough job. Daddies have it hard. My Mommie knew this, and as such, Daddie always got the piece of chicken he wanted #wings. Sure men don’t have babies gestating in their bodies for almost a year, but to discount their role in the development of children by saying it can be done by a woman is deception of the worst kind. And I consider myself a womanist. The presence of a good father has the equal-converse impact on the life of a child as his absence. As such, there is no replacement. No stand-in. No substitute.

And if you think otherwise, riddle me this… If iron sharpens iron [and indeed it does #ItsBiblical #Proverbs27 17Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend], please share with me (and all of these internets) how a mother becomes a father, and does his job successfully? We’ll wait.

When we do this, when we say mothers can be fathers, we tarnish the works of great men, great fathers, like my friend's dad.   And on this day we celebrate the lives of Father’s past and present (and inspire the fathers to come), we sully their good names, wise words, beautiful hearts, and love.

On this Father’s Day (and others), I pray you spend it celebrating men doing the work that Fathers around the world do every day. Tell me about those men. Show me those men. It might encourage some man to be them. It just might inspire some man absent from the life of his child to come back home. To reclaim the person he made. And remake them anew.

…and though I LOATHE sharing him (especially with my sisters), I’d even be willing to loan out mine. He’s pretty damn fantastic. I mean, he has to be. He made me.

I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection. #SigmundFreud

Getting To The Core...

In late December, a friend asked a question. She asked our group (of women) to share what their Core Desired Feelings for 2014 would be, as she is fascinated by the concept of speaking aloud her wants, her needs, her desires. Not so fascinating to me. More like scary. For her, speaking them aloud helps with the accountability process. Now that they have been spoken, people will ask about it. Hold her to it. Inquire about her progress. Keep it at the forefront of my mind.

There is life left in you yet young GirlieGurl. #InYourCore
The core. It’s at the center of everything. It’s what gives a thing value. It holds it together. Core training is so important to the human body because everything is connected to the core. You may not eat the core of the fruit, but locked inside it is the key to life anew. That’s what makes these things so important. So terrifying. But so awesome and so necessary.

Speaking aloud my feelings tends to have the opposite impact on me than it does my friend. Once I say them, they become real. That frightens me! Hearing them gives them life. I can feel the heat rising to my head as I blog. What happens if I don’t get them? What happens if they are unachievable? I don’t know, what if I decide to change them? There are so many variables to consider! eeek!

But I’m trying to do better, so I participated in the activity. My Core Desired Feelings for 2014 (as written in December 2013) were as follows:

1.A love unspeakable. #hopefullyIcanwriteitsinceIwantittobespeechless

2.Courageous!! I wanna see you be brave Nateezy! #sarabareilles

3.Relax(ed), Relate(d), Release(d)! I want to be able to always channel my inner Whitley Gilbert…and get a good giggle [out of life].

4.The Will To Give! Mostly because it feels so damn good. Especially when they don’t know it’s coming #CheckYourMail

5. Uncomfortable. …and not in an unsettled, bad, anxious way…but in a way that I’m forced to do something different, try something different, maybe become a different me #KeyshiaCole (um...where she been?)

I said wrote it. I put it out there. And you think they sounds crazy, hunh? See, I knew you would. That’s exactly why I didn’t want to do this in the first place. I don’t really believe that #WellKinda. It’s just what I was thinking at the moment so I thought I would share it with you.

We are halfway done with 2014, I guess we should check my progress…

A Love Unspeakable. Well it’s more like a love unspoken.  I’ve pretty much avoided this part of my life because it’s well…depressing. And you don’t get a medal for it. So there’s that.
Grade: Incomplete. Fail. Didn’t even try. Summer School or nah?

Courageous!! Professionally, I have gotten more in touch with my inner Sarabi. I have spoken in my true, genuine, thoughtful voice, when it was unpopular to do so. But more importantly, when my words were contrary to the group. It’s always a risk. Saying the right thing, when it appears to be the one thing no person is ready to hear or confront. But saying it (and hearing it) challenges and grows you. I still have more to do, but I’m satisfied so far.
Grade: B+

Relax(ed), Relate(d), Release(d)!! I haven’t been in tune with my inner Whitley Gilbert as I would have hoped to be this year. Emotional stress is something else. I’ve been wandering around old wounds that I should really allow my medical health professional to attend to…ASAP. It’s just so much. Almost to the point of embarrassment. Hurts too much, ya’know? But, the running has been helping in this effort. When it gets too big, when it becomes too much, when I cannot make heads, tails or otherwise, I give it away to the pavement. I’ve gotten into a great relationship with my Asics and Saucony’s. We love each other very much. I cheat on them from time to time, but I always come back. Always.
Grade: C

The Will To Give!! This one got off to a rough start this year. It’s been a tough one at work and I haven’t been in a mood to surprise people with gifts like normal. However, I have made great strides in this area. There was the #InvoiceIncidentInApril that brought a friend tons of joy. That one honestly was some of my best work. Without numbering or naming them, I have done some kind things this half of the year. I am pleased with my ability to give and I am working to do more and better!
Grade: A+

Uncomfortable. This one hasn’t been achieved yet. But it isn’t so much for a lack of trying. I love to have fun. I enjoy a great adventure. I’ll engage in a conversation with a complete stranger. I am not sure what it will take for me to get that uncomfortable feeling. I have traveled alone – internationally. I am not adverse to public transportation. I’ll try a new food with little convincing. I am going to have to go back to the drawing board on this one and get a little creative. If I rank ordered these core feelings, this one would be #2. I really want to stretch myself here.
Grade: I need tutoring.

I am glad that she asked the question. That she checked in with us about these feelings. Lord knows I really want these things for myself. Maybe I need to hashtag them as a goal for the year or something, like I did running. I’m more than halfway done with my races. I probably could have knocked this out in a few weeks with some (real) dedication. Maybe not a few weeks, but you know what I mean. I want these feelings like I want these medals.

Nothing to it but to do it. Or at least to figure out how.

What do you want for 2014? What are your core desired feelings?

Can You Hear Me Now? #ListenSamListen

I am not a nag. I don’t care what that Jerk (Ernie) or SDP tells you. It ain’t true! I just insist on telling you what we’re you’re going to do with your life multiple times within an hour period because, well…You Are Not Listening To Me. I genuinely care about you, and that’s just the way I show it. Deal. Now what are you wearing today, because I need to iron it.

Okay, I can be a bit of a nag. But it’s part of my charm. I don’t mean it in a nagging kind of way, I just worry, and I want to make sure that everything is taken care of. My mental checklist is so long that if I don’t share it, I will forget it. And now that AWB is not around to leave post-its on my desk, many things will be forgotten in the latter half of this year.

Okay, so where was I going with this? Right. Those of you who identify as men in my life do not listen to me! This awesome weekend in San Diego illuminated that factoid right there. And here is m proof…

So, we have all gathered in San Diego to have an #epic vacation/race weekend. That means hotel, traveling, navigating the city, parking, logistics etc, right? Right. This is right up my alley. While I am a total go with the flow type on vacation #kinda, when I’m with a group of people I care about, I NEED to take care of them.

And conference hubby wants something sweet to eat. Only it’s late, the evening before the race, and we’re kind of tired. But, I’ve been in the city almost a day longer than he has, so I am familiar with the options around the city. He wants a brownie and ice cream. I suggest we go out to a nearby store to satisfy his sweet tooth. He insists that we will do no such a thing. So, room service. While I am confirming his room service order (because I had to call on his behalf), he mentions coffee. I tell him that we already have some in the room. He is offended, literally OFFENDED by the suggestion, so we order coffee as well from room service.

Yummy desert, tasty ice cream, substandard coffee and $30 dollars later, he is feeling like this was not a great idea. No, he actually knows and admits that this was not a great idea. I just smile and hand him the receipt. #IWontSayIToldYouSoYet #ItsJustTheFirstNight

Early Sunday morning, I have finally gotten myself together. I have all of the items that I will need post-race. Meds for the aches and pain. Recovery supplements. My wallet. My digital camera to supplement dead smart phones #thosebatteriesneverlast. Everything I would need but could not carry. I tell him where the bag is located. I even put the room key (that he would have to take) on top of it to remind him to grab it. I text him while I was awaiting the start of my event just to remind him about it because, I mean, well he was kinda sleepy. Post-race I find them, we hug it out, and I look for my bag. He admits that he forgot to bring it (but has the room key with him). #ItsLikeHeDidItOnPurpose #JustToSpiteMe #ThatAin’tHoly #ItWasSunday

He comments on all of the things that I have in my hands and if I needed help carrying them. I mentioned casually that a bag would help. He carried oddly shaped nourishment, refreshing liquids, and other race items. He notices the other runners are changing, stretching and pulling stuff out of their bags. He inquires if I needed to do any of that. I smiled and replied, It’s all in my bag. #IMeanItWas #IdidSmileTho

Now it is Sunday evening and we’re working out the parking post epic race and night out in SD. I tell them to park at the lot we parked the night before and pay $10. That way they won’t have to get up early in the morning to rush to move the car and potentially not find another space. It is late and we are so tired, right? Well, why in the world would he do that when he could park on the street for free, and just set an alarm and move his car in the morning? How could I be so silly? Especially when the drunk lady you just met in the lobby that you don’t know, who does not give a damn about your car said parking on the street is a good idea. Yea. That. Well, morning comes and he is annoyed by the alarm, as opposed to eager to move his car. I do nothing.

Once he finally gets up, gets dressed and gets to his car to move it, he’s greeted by a ticket. See, he’s parked on a hill. He didn’t turn his wheels in to the curb. He’s from Detroit so, well, earthquakes aren’t a thing. And get this, He’s Mad! Tell us why you mad though honey… Because they didn’t have a sign telling people to do what EVERY OTHER CAR ON THE STREET has done. #OhOkay #IReallyWantToSayIToldYouSo #I’llKeepItToMyself

All the while getting ready for breakfast and on the walk over, I had to listen to how this travesty of justice and reckless citing by parking enforcement will not go unpunished, right? In my mind I’m thinking, this could have been avoided by listening. The car ended up in the parking lot I told them to park in, in the first place. But instead of that, I tell myself, You know, they had a rough morning and are suffering the consequences of not listening to me. I’m just gonna treat them to breakfast #Panera. Yea, that’ll be a good idea.

We get to the register. DRice falls in line. Makes his order and moves on. It’s Hubby’s turn and this fool has to just be a man about it. Naw, I can’t let you do that. No, no, no, I got it. What are you doing? You’re not paying for this.

I am just damn DONE by this point! So, I did what every woman who’s ready to explode but recognizes that she’s not sure how much bail would be, and all these people are kinda watching because she is wearing her race medal around her neck #MedalMonday. I have a mildly controlled #AngryBlackWomanMoment.

I’m about to lose it. I am really about to break down and snap on you! Just order your damn food. Tell them what you want, just say it! OMG. OMG. OMG. Just listen and do what I say. OMG. OMG. OMG. Why won’t you just listen to me… *real fake tears are beginning to form*

…and his response? *queue up handsome smile* Awww, I wish I had my smart phone so I could record my boo snapping…you so cute…look at you. *still handsomely smiling*

This fool is at the brink of death in Panera, literally the cliff…and I’m feeling my inner Spartan… What does he do? Make the moment absolutely hilarious and cute! I hate him. He doesn’t listen. If a man’s test in life is a woman. I believe part of the woman’s test is getting that man to listen to her – and really hear what she is saying – and comply with her words. #WeNeedMorePractice lol

There’s more. Like him attempting to pay for the hotel room that was already paid for. WHEN I TOLD HIM IT WAS BEFORE WE WENT TO CHECK OUT!!!! But we’ll keep that between us and the hotel staff wondering if I was going to cause a violent domestic scene about all the renovating.

…but now he knows not listening to me comes with a price.

Run Like A Jogger! #NationalRunningDay2014

Get Up. Get Out. Get Moving. Well, after work, I will do all of those things. Mostly because I’m not like some of my running counterparts who will wake before Jerusalem to tackle the pavement. Ain't nobody for time to be interrupting Idris Elba making pancakes in my dreams for that. Yes, he's shirtless.

On this national day of running, I shall reflect on my very first run. The Wicked 10K in Virginia Beach. One of my RHDs suggested that I do the race. I wanted to crawl under a rock. Sure I run. But that’s on a treadmill. In an air conditioned gym. With other people not interested in what I’m doing because they’re working out too. If I run outside *gasp* people will look at me! They will see me *double gasp* Running!

I can’t have that. I really can’t.

But she was persistent. You run in costume. The race ends on the beach. There is lots of awesome race swag and free beer! It is basically like an adult Halloween party.

Okay. I got a little time for that.

I registered. Next stop, race expo. I had no idea what I was getting into. I figured there would be a line where you pick up this “bib” thing, and then you leave, right? Wrong! I had never seen so many people at an event that wasn’t a concert, or a fair, or an airport or Black Friday shopping. I mean people everywhere! And they are happy. Like legitimately happy.

Guess I’m doing this. I get my bib. I find my shirt. They give me a cool bag. And there’s more. More free stuff! Yessir! This is amazing. I should always listen to my RHD. She’s all knowing.

It’s the morning of race day. I’ve looked up the directions to the parking area and start line. I’ve made my way into my fairy wings. I’ve pinned my race bib to my shirt. I’ve laced up my new balances. All that’s left is to do this thing. This really scary thing. Run. Outside. Where. People. Will. See. Me.

…and it was the most amazing experience ever. There were some awesome costumes. Happy people. Strangers cheering us on. Other runners clapping for each other as they pass. I mean a bunch of very nice people. Granted I can’t do all the things they’re doing because, well, breathing is difficult. But I make note of it. I take it all in. I smile between gasps.

As I am coming up on the finish line, I am thanking God. Literally thanking Him for making this end. I mean, I am done. Like why in the HAYLE would I agree to run 6.2 miles? This is nuts! But I’m almost finished and I’m hungry. Just. One. More. Step.

At the finish like I am thinking about my life and my choices and the decisions that lead me to this sweaty existence. Then this young lady hands me a medal and says Congratulations!

The biggest kool-aid smile adorns my face. I look around, and I think to myself, OMG! I won! I won! I can’t believe it, I won! And I am excited. Legitimately excited. Only, I look around at the hundreds of people already on the beach. The people with costumes, and race bibs, and beer, and medals.

My life was changed in 2010 more than I could have imagined.
But wait. I won. I got a medal. How did they win? Did I not win? I’m so confused. But I’m hungry, so there’s that. And it needs my immediate attention. I’ll figure out who I return this medal to later.

My RHD explained the whole race thing to me when we got back to campus. Everyone wins because everyone starts, and finishes. It doesn’t matter how fast you are. It matters only that you compete. You’re not out there running to beat anyone but your best self and of course, the pavement.

I never wanted chilli like I did in that moment #groupie
Wow. It makes so much sense. I can do this. I can start. I can finish. I can always show up and be my best self. And yes, I am terrified that people will see me and judge my ill-formed, newborn elephant’esque running form, but maybe, just maybe they will be like the folks who were out on the course in San Diego. The people so excited to see us pass in full sprint and half step alike. Every one of us got a cheer and a smile. And if their intentions are less than honorable, you can always post your #MedalMonday picture. It’s not like they’re getting a medal for that sideline hate.

Whatever your reason for running, remember that it’s yours. It belongs to nobody else but you. You are the only person who knows that it means, because you created it. You nurture it every time you lace up those running shoes.

My National Running Day. #2014 #SanJose #LunchRun
This National Running Day I sent a fellow #BlackGirlRunning my race calendar for the year. She replied to my email thank you, and commented on my email signature…

"...see you wouldn't ask why the rose that grew from the crack in the concrete had damaged petals...on the contrary, we would all celebrate its tenacity, we would all love its will to reach the sun...well, we are the rose, this is the concrete, and these are my damaged petals...don't ask me why...thank God...ask me how." #TupacShakur

I ran today because there would have been no way that I could have seen the sunflowers bloom from the concrete of these San Jose streets otherwise. And believe me, they are in full bloom!

#EpicSummerRun, Race10Medal9

It. Was. Epic.

Unfortunately, it didn’t start out that way. Even back at the planning stages this wasn’t fun. It was a struggle to even decide if I was going to do this one. The year started out as me running alone for the most part. Now it’s almost June and I have tons of friends participating in running events. Like the Diva's Half Marathon & 5K  in San Francisco. Which just so happened to be the same day as the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon in San Diego.

A very important strategic decision. Do I run with friends and be a Diva, and get a boa, and take a picture with a sexy fireman? Or, do I find my own way to #14in2014 and not only get my 9th medal, but begin the #iRunTheCoast challenge #CaliCombo…which comes with an awesome challenge medal?

The answer is to always go your own way. Make your own path. Find your own self. #SanDiego

So, I found a couple of Southern California friends to meet me in San Diego for an #epicsummerweekendrunning. Only, one friend got stuck at the airport in the Bay Area for 3 hours, and the others couldn’t meet me until the next day.

But it got epic!! A wonderfully set up race expo. Free goodies – like always – Rock ‘n Roll folks never disappoint. Happy people everywhere. Literally everyone was happy about their decision to pay an obscene amount to run that next morning at an unholy hour. Hella Excited.

…and nervous. I was actually kind of afraid! It’s crazy when I think about it. I’ve clearly done these running events before…and survived them. But why now? Why the nerves? I suppose maybe I still don’t believe in the legend of me I am making through #14in2014. Guess I have to keep running until I’m convinced. There’s no one more committed to a cause than a convinced skeptic, right?

Well, it is the morning of the race. After a night of reunions, pasta, annoying singing at dinner, room service, lounging, laughter and swapping secrets, I rolled out of bed. My first words?

I’m too tired. I can’t do this. Please don’t make me go. …and that fool didn’t even respond. I think he grunted. I just shook my head and continued getting dressed. Before I left out, I had one request. When you guys wake up, bring my race bag. It’s right here – the room key is on top of it. Don’t forget it!

Okay. #LiesToldWhileSleeping

Hotel to Balboa Park: OMG! OMG! OMG! I have to get there! I have to see SPL before he takes off into greatness in the Marathon! OMG! He is going to KILL it!

Corral 3: OMG! OMG! OMG! We need to take a picture! Kisses! Good Luck! *he is soooo stinking cute in those running shorts*

Thirty Minute Wait to Half Marathon Corral opening: This was not a good idea. *text to #conferencehubby* Don’t forget my bag!

Start: Welp. I paid for this. Might as well…

Get thee behind satan! I'm running! *make mental note of the address*
Mile 1: This city is actually pretty nice. I could see myself living here.

Mile 2: The people are so nice! Awwww, lookie at the cheerleaders!

Mile 3: Really? Wings & Ribs joint? Are you kidding me? It smells good though. #IGotALittleTimeForThat #OhWaitImRunningAHalfMarathon #Dammit #TheSwindle #DontForgetTheAddress

Mile 4: Oh, no thank you sir, I don’t think I should have a Stoli Vodka and Cranberry. I have to run. You know, like all these other people out here. It’s kind of a thing. But your generosity will be remembered on this great day sir. #iwitnessedkindnessinSD #PayItForward #ARoundOnMeLater #ImightaHadaDrinkIfThatWasCirocTho

Mile 5: I wonder if that fool remembered my bag. I can’t wait for those recovery beans. They are soooooo good!

Mile 6: I signed up to do this 3 more times this year. That doesn’t seem like the smartest idea.

Mile 7: *reading the cool words in chalk on the pavement* Run like someone called you a jogger. I think that’s supposed to be an insult to make me run faster. It kinda feels like a compliment.

Mile 8: Only 4 more miles to go. I mean that’s not a lot. #LiesToldWhileRunning

Mile 9: I hope I don’t miss Aloe Blacc. I swear I’m moving so damn slow!

Mile 10: *sign* Half Marathon stay right. Marathon to the left. *drifts to the left running* Um…where in the entire HAYLE are you going? *drifts back right*

Mile 11: *text to #conferencehubby* Mile 11. It hurts.

Mile 12: I quit! I Quit! I QUIT!!! This is so stupid. My feet are killing me. I really wanted to wear my Steve Madden’s tonight!

Mile 13: I’m never going to run again. My circulatory system, my toenails, my braids and my hypothalamus all hate me.

Finish: OMG! There he is! Is. That. A. Sign. With. My. Name. On. It. OMG. Keep. Running. You’re. Not. Finished. Yet.

I have to find them! I have to find them! OMG! He told me he had a surprise for me, but there was no way I could have anticipated that! I have the sweetest #conferencehubby In. The. Entire. Galaxy! He was so excited to catch my gaze as I finished the longest 0.1 mile in my life.

I got my medal, my cold towel, took my finish line photo, and grabbed every piece of sustenance they handed me. Always moving forward, towards the exit, to get to my friends. To thank them. To hug them. To give them all this crap in my hands before my muscles gave out #thelacticacidstruggle.

And there they were waiting beyond the trolley crossing. So happy to see me. So ready to find the rest of our friends to congratulate them. So ready to have brunch. Sans my post-race bag. But how could I be upset. They just made my day!

We found our friend SPL who beasted the full marathon. Made it to the free beer station. And got to see Aloe Blacc #he’sthemanhe’sthemanhe’stheman in Petco Park do what he does sooo well. I felt like the woman! I was the woman. I am the woman.

Everything about Rock ‘n Roll San Diego was amazing! If you are looking for an awesome half marathon experience it comes with my highest recommendation. Unlike #StripAtNight, RnRSD has awesome weather, great location, beaches everywhere!, well mapped and marked race route, lots of entertainment along the course, the entire CITY of San Diego cheering you on, and is totally family friendly. Though you begin running before the sun, and before Jesus has a chance to wake up the rooster to crow at dawn, you won’t regret it! Oh, and bring your friends with you! It makes a great trip all the more fantastic.

I am the woman who set out January 1st to earn 14 race medals. I am the woman who is at the middle of the year and more than halfway to 14. I am the woman becoming a legend. My skepticism is fading…

Word of advice though. After running 13.1 or 26.2 miles, maybe you should not go out dancing to semi-ratchet music that you #CCOD that you know most of the words to #ThatsMyJammmmm. I #cantconfirmordeny that this happened and that I maybe walking is a remarkably difficult thing to do, even days later. #CCOD
